It’s Just Some Random Guy posted his 100th VIDEO this week.

If you haven’t seen any of these before, the videos started as a spoof of the PC/Mac commercials using Marvel and DC characters. These shorts evolved into two serial movies, After Hours and Happy Hour. In the serials, the action centers around the adventures of all the major DC and Marvel heroes and villains as they kick back and relax at Stan’s Place, a super hero bar owned by Stan Lee. The characters also comment on the state of their movie franchises and parody other popular summer movie offerings.

What’s so surprising about these videos is the amount of emotional depth IJSRG is able to generate using nothing but action figures. I dare anyone to to watch Twas the Dark Night Before Christmas and not tear up just a little.

When not making parody videos, It’s Just Some Random Guy and Girl are creating promotional videos for various Comic Cons (and the Ontario PGA Golf Merchandising Show – HUH?).

If you are a comic fan, it’s worth the time to sit down and watch these videos. These are great stories filled with stellar character moments – my favorite being  Green Goblin busting out singing Summertime. Even if comics aren’t your thing, pop some popcorn and settle in for a great ride. I promise you will bust a gut laughing.

I hope the series goes on for a long time. Keep up the good work and again, congratulations!

The action continues with Zero Hour.

Well, it’s official! The Summer Movie Season is here!

It’s Just Some Random Guy has just posted his first I’m a Marvel and I’m a DC parody. If you haven’t seen these before, or just feel the need to fall on your butt laughing, check the rest of IJSRG’s genius parodies.

PS. I love Deadpool.

Robert Downey Jr. is the bestest.I’m not sure I’ve mentioned yet how much I love Robert Downey Jr.

I love the man. I believe he’s an incredibly inspiring person. One of the things that I love about him is his brutal honesty when it comes to discussing his life, his addictions and his brushes with the law. I can’t think of one other person who has been able to turn it around the way he did.

And the fact that he could go through so much and still come out with a healthy dose of humour about himself – he is always able to find the funny about himself and that whole horrible period in his life.

He managed to go up a notch on the FG Respect-O-Meter (patent pending) this week.  When asked if he’s had experience with superhero costumes prior to Iron Man, he responded:

“Growing up, no. But in my mid-30s in Palm Springs right before an arrest, yes.”

OH SNAP!

You rule Robert. I bow down before you’re awesomeness.

Now that Constantin Films has started pulling the Hitler Rants from You Tube, we need something to replace them with.

Here’s a suggestion:

Iron Man + AC/DC, how can you go wrong?

Paramount has released two new Iron Man IMAX posters:

Iron Man - IMAXWhiplash - IMAXNice shot of the briefcase armour, but the posters ares still ‘been there, seen that’ for me.

You can also check out a new clip at MSN. I love it when Gwyneth Paltrow is being catty.

Joss Whedon to direct The AvengersYou read it here, well, probably not first exactly, but it looks like Joss Whedon *will* be directing the upcoming Avengers movie!

According to both Entertainment Weekly and Deadline New York, Whedon is in final negotiations with Marvel to direct the multi-hero adaptation that’s due out in May 2012. This means that he will not be directing the Runaways as had been previously reported, that role has been given to Pete Sollett. The movie will bring together Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Helmsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury as well as introducing some of Marvel’s second tier heroes for the first time.

I am so happy for Joss and excited for all of us.  I think Whedon is a great choice for this movie, he’s great at directing ensemble pieces, he’s a master at balancing humour and drama and no one writes better snappy dialogue than he does. He’s also great at coaxing strong performances out of weaker actors.

I cannot wait to see who else will be joining the cast and in what capacity.

Say it with me now, you know you want to:

SQUEEUpdate: Variety is now on board as well. They are also saying that Edward Norton might be returning as The Hulk as well.  *Snoopy Dance*

The promotion campaign for Iron Man 2 is ramping up to the May 7th opening date.  And so far, I’m undewhelmed.

The first piece is the launch of the Stark Expo 2010: Better Living Through Technology viral site.  Viral campaigns are tricky to get right.  You have to provide enough supportive content for whatever it is that you’re promoting, but not overwhelm the product – in this case, a movie.  In other words, you have to whet your audience’s appetite for the main event.  The best example I can think of is the District 9 viral campaign – MNU’s official website, the anti-MNU blog and the MNU recruiting site. All these websites gave you a taste for the lives of the characters inhabiting the film, the world they live in and allow the  user to experience a piece of that world first hand.

Stark Expo 2010 does none of those things.  You get a countdown clock to the movie release, a couple of promotion videos (okay, the retro video is kinda cute), some design concepts of the buildings and a layout of the facility with sponsorship logos.  And why do I get the feeling we’ll be bombarded with product placements for Burger King, Dr. Pepper and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups throughout the movie? I really, really hope they do more with the site than this – maybe Ivan Vanco can hack it or something.  There are a lot of possibilities, most likely we’ll see a website from Hammer Industries soon.

Next, we have new posters:

The “Will He Pull Up in Time” Version The “Crap! We Forgot Mickey Rourke! Version

Iron Man poster - version 2.0

Iron Man poster - version 2.1

Floating heads? Over the shoulder, come hither looks? Feathered edges?  What is this? 1995? UUUUGGGGGG!!!!

Then there is this little treasure: Which looks a lot like this treat, from last summer:
Iron Man 2: Black Widow G.I. Joe

Jon Favreau, you deserve better. Your movie deserves better marketing than this BS. C’mon Paramount, this is an major movie event, your designers should be pulling out their A games.

And before anyone asks, yes, I can frakking do better.

A bunch of great movie trailers and commercial spots came out last week, here they are in no particular order:

Iron Man 2 (Commercial Spot from Kids Choice Awards)

Sorcerer’s Apprentice (Official Trailer)

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Despicable Me

I’ve never heard of Scott Pilgrim, but that looks hysterical, even if it does have Michael Cera in it.  I’m glad to see Jay Baruchel in another movie.  This is going to be a big year for him.  Nicholas Cage, not so much. Hasn’t he done this brand of crazy before?  Getting a little boring.  Despicable Me looks meh, but who hasn’t wanted to pull out a freeze ray at Starbucks.

As for Iron Man 2 – it looks awesome of course.

Robert Downey Jr, step away from the giant fried pastry!

Anyone looking forward to these?

You mean about the new Iron Man movie?  I’ll tell you why.

Because it looks FRAKKING awesome!

Not to mention that one can never have too much Sam Rockwell (Justin Hammer).  Here’s hoping they keep his character around for another movie.   He seems the perfect foil for cocky Tony Stark.  Whiplash and Black Widow are shaping up.  Actually, I’m looking forward to the interplay between Natasha and Pepper Potts – who got some of the best lines in the first movie.  Hopefully the two ladies will engage in some verbal sparring.

And what more can be said about Robert Downey Junior?  I am simply in awe of him as an actor and a person.

I CAN’T WAIT  TO SEE THIS MOVIE!

I can hear the fanboys now:  “SUITCASE ARMOUR!” When Tony Stark can make a battle suit that fits into an evening bag, only then will I be impressed.
