Anime North, 2010 - May 28 - 30It’s Anime North 2010 this weekend at the Toronto Congress Centre, Doubletree Hotel and Sheraton Toronto Airport.

Wow! They’ve really expanded this year!

Guests include John Swansey, Christopher Ayres, Greg Ayers, Brittney Karbowski, Micah Solusod, Vic Mignogna, Steve Bennet, Ben Dunn and performances by Gavin Goszka, Douglas Tong and Eikostate.

The event started at 1:00 PM this afternoon and goes until Sunday at 5:00 o’clock. Highlights of the weekend include the Otakubaloo Rave on the TCC patio tonight at 6:00 PM, Super Street Fighter IV on Saturday at 9:00 am and an Art Auction on Sunday at 10:00 AM. Check out the schedule for more details.

If you are driving along Dixon past the venues be prepared for slower traffic as people slow down to ooggle the cos-players.

Also, if you are planning to attend, but don’t have your ticket yet, Anime North organizers posted the following notice on their website:

There is a group online who claim they have purchased “bulk” Anime North memberships and are now reselling them at discount prices, giving them out to people outside the con on Friday. This is a scam, and they are giving people counterfeit badges.

Anime North is taking anti-counterfeiting measures on the convention badges this year. If you do NOT get your badge from us, it’ll clearly be a phony, you will not be allowed into the convention, and you will have wasted your money.

Please be careful how you purchase your tickets.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this year. But I will drive by with the kidlets to check out the cosplayers. DH says he’s going to get his costume ready for next year… wonder what it’ll be.

Felicia Day and James MarstersOh this is completely SQUEE-worthy!

FanExpo Canada has announced its guestlist and it can only be described as *EPIC*!

As you have probably already guessed, Joss Whedon luminaries Felicia Day and James Marsters will be appearing at the con. I’ve heard that they are both a lot of fun and very generous to their fans. No word yet as to whether they’ll take part in autograph and photo sessions, but I’ve got everything crossable, well, er, crossed.

Other guests include:

  • William Shatner
  • Joan Collins
  • Adam West
  • Burt Ward
  • Julie Newmar
  • Peter Facinelli
  • Michael Dorn
  • Peter Mayhew
  • Sendhil Ramamurthy

That is quite the list. And that’s only for the Sci-Fi part of it. The Festival Fear Horror Expo is just as epic with David Cronenberg, Ken Russell, Lance Henrikson, Heather Langenkamp, and more. Not to be outdone, Comic Book Expo has booked Stan Lee, Gary Frank, John Romita, JR., Olivier Coipel and Steve McNiven.

PHEW! There is something for every brand of geek/fan/nerd etc…

DH is looking forward to all the steampunk seminars. I want to go to the Q&As.

FanExpo Canada will be taking place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, August 27th to the 29th.

I’m so excited. See you there!

Sailor Moon

I was out shopping the other day and needed some new undies.  Now, I don’t know about the rest of you, but I hate boring underwear.  My unmentionables are usually brightly coloured with what can only be described as ‘bold’ graphics on them.  No boring little white bikini panties for me, no way!  Normally this isn’t a big deal, my favorite store displays their undies on these big tables, colour coded according to style and you just pick and chose which ones you want.

No big deal, right?

Well, this time, I had my husband with me.  Now, DH is as big a geek as I am.  In fact, I would say bigger.  He certainly has a better developed punning ability.  So imagine my embarrassment when he hands me a pair of navy panties, with an anchor motif and says:

“You could wear these and nothing else.  Then you could be Sailor Moon!”

It’ll be a little while before I can show my face in that store again.
