After preliminary rounds there will be our Ultimate Geek-Off with finalists. We have a ton of cool prizes to give away and the title of “Ultimate Whedon Geek.” If you’re interested in participating in this contest (and aren’t afraid of being up on stage!) you will be able to register your name on Friday when you pick up your badges. among other events. Get more information on the Whedon Fest website.

This is really shaping up to be a great con. I’m really looking forward to attending. Still no word as to volunteer opportunities as of yet, but Evelina of Starry Nights Events told me that they will be needing stewards to help with the main room and people for the autograph/photograph lines and will be looking to fill these roles closer to the event. So, if you are interested in volunteering, contact Starry Nights using the Contact form on the website.

More updates to come!

Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Live in Calgary!Cow-town has managed to snag the first professional production of Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.

Hardly surprising when you consider Doctor Horrible is trying to join a gang of supervillains lead by Bad Horse, the Thoroughbred of Sin.

There are even singing cowboys!

Neil Patrick Harris was even willing to take part in the production, but unfortunately scheduling conflicts mean that Jon Lachlan Stewart will be taking over the role of Billy/Doctor Horrible. No word yet if Edmonton native Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as the pompous Captain Hammer or who will play the role of our  plucky heroine, Penny.

Presented by Broadway West Productions, Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will run from May 27th to June 5th at the Vertigo Studio Stage. There are still some tickets available although more than half are already gone. You can get them at the Broadway West Presents website or by calling 403-221-3708.

Get them soon. We don’t want to cause a stampede!

We will be celebrating the Joss ‘verse. The unofficial convention will comprise of guest talks, autograph and photograph sessions, charity auction, contests, a Saturday night dance, and more!

Nicholas BrendonTheir first guest announcement was made today and it’s a doozy: Nicholas Brendon, aka Xander Harris, will be attending the con. There’s no word as of  yet as to which events he’ll be taking part in.

This is the first event Starry Night will be putting on, so I hope it goes well for them. No word yet as to whether they’ll need volunteers and they are still updating their events list but I’m going to keep an eye on the event and keep you updated.

Anyone else interested in attending?

Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along GameIt’s done!

Doctor Octoroc’s 8-bit tribute to Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is finished.

For those who haven’t been following, this is basically an 8-bit graphical version of the original internet serial. In other words, if Whedon had done Dr. Horrible as a Nintendo game  instead of a series of short films, this is probably what fans would have got.

Put together, all four videos clock in at about 30 minutes. As someone who has worked in Flash, that’s a ton of animation work, and it is so well done. Congratulations.

The first two parts can be found on the good doctor’s You Tube channel. Here’s part three, in two parts, on You Tube:

Check out Dr. Octoroc’s other projects.

These were a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what he tackles next. Maybe full length feature films?

The next chapter of Doctor Octoroc 8-bit video game adaptation of Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is up.

This is so well done.  I can’t wait to see the final chapter.

If we were in a time warp, and this were 1990 instead of 2010, we might not have the awesomeness that is Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.  If Joss Whedon had created it back then, Doctor Horrible probably would have been brought to life as an 8 bit computer game, available on 3 1/2 floppy disk complete with cheesy midi soundtrack and sketchy graphics.

As a matter of fact, it would probably look something like this:

Check out the first act of the blog as 8-bit game interpretation over at Doctor Octoroc Presents.  He’s created both a high quality Flash version and a You Tube version:

Doctor Horrible Sing-Along Game

I can’t wait to see the next two acts.  Well done!

Felicia DayFelicia recently dished to MTV about her hopes for the upcoming Dr. Horrible sequel that Joss Whedon, Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion have in the works:

“I can’t spoil anything, because I don’t know much more than Nathan [Fillion] or anyone else. I’ve heard there’s a title. That’s about it.”

Unfortunately, Felicia still doesn’t know what her role will be in the new project, but she wants in, even if that means working for craft services:

“I just think Joss doing ‘Dr. Horrible’ really legitimized web video in a way that nobody else could. That he could take this awesome thing directly to fans and have them support it — I want him to do more of it. I’ll do anything I can do to help.”

As for the story line, she hopes to see more of The Evil League of Evil:

“The Evil League of Evil is so interesting. I feel like there are so many antagonists and protagonists that you could play with,” she said. “If you look at that last final shot, there are so many crazy characters there — like Dead Bowie…”

You can read the rest of the interview at the MTV site.

But wait! There’s more….

In other Felicia related news, The Guild Mistress has announced the launch of an official spinoff!

Felicia has inked a deal with a ‘very prominent animation house’ (but we can’t tell you who it is due to the presence of the dreaded NDA) to create Lil’ Guildies for the web.  Described as a cross between The Guild and The Muppet Babies, the web based show will follow the adventures of the baby Guildies (including Embryonic Bladezz) as they travel through space, make music and solve crime?

“I thought a mainstream kids show for TV would be a disaster in that regard but they kept saying that they loved my sensibility and they really wanted me to do whatever I felt was true to the tone of the web series.”

Guild veteran Greg Aronowitz, prop master for Do You Want to Date My Avatar and creator of the hilarious bonus Christmas items from last year’s holiday bonus videos is on board as lead developer.

These should be an absolute blast.  The characters look hilarious and I just about blasted Coke through my nose when I saw Embryonic Bladezz. I just hope it doesn’t push back the launch of season 4. Find out more at Tubefilter News and at The Guild.

Congratulations Felicia!

PS. This had better not be an April Fools Day joke.

Oooh, this has my little fangirl heart racing…

Doctor Horrible by Cheyenne WrightAccording to Neil Patrick Harris, the sequel to Doctor Horrible’s Sing Along Blog will be a FEATURE FILM!

“That’s their plan. I don’t know of what scale. They’re talking all options, because they made the first ‘Dr. Horrible’ in five days on no budget at all — that was its intention.

“You don’t want to necessarily make the feature film be an $80 million giant movie, because it defeats the purpose of what the first film was made to be,” he explained. “Then again, you don’t want it to be so low-brow that it’s not worth paying money to see as a movie.” Check out the rest of the interview at MTV News.

Can you say SQUEEEEE!

Of course, nothing is set in stone.  All the principles are very involved in their own projects: NPH with How I Met Your Mother, Nathan Fillion with Castle, Felicia Day with The Guild and Red.  Never mind that Joss is currently working with Eliza Dushku developing a feature movie of their own. Availability is going to be a big stumbling block to getting this off the ground.

But I have faith.  It will get done and it will be awesome.

PS.  The totally awesome graphic of Dr. Horrible (post Penny) was drawn by the fantabulous Cheyenne Wright – he of the buttery man-voice.  He’s also the colorist behind the phenomenal Girl Genius comics by Phil and Kaja Folio.  You need to check out his work at Arcane Times Concept Art Blog.  If you’re looking for Dr. Horrible Inspired wallpapers, look no further.
